Archer Presents - Love Songs From The Divine Church Of The Open Sky
Archer has performed as a solo artist across the world including the USA and Europe, and now brings you Love Songs From The Divine Church Of the Open Sky featuring the 28 piece Open Sky Big Brass Youth Band.
This is Archer like you have never heard before, presenting old and new songs with a gentle and sometimes powerful backing of one of the best young brass bands in the country.
His vocal tenor, and songs, steer The Open Sky Big Brass Youth Band
along with him, telling stories that stir nostalgia, reflect society, and encourage people to listen, engage and enjoy joyous vocal and brass sounds.
Eugene Ball has written the arrangements and plays trumpet
Phillipa Edwards conducts the Open Sky Big Brass Band

Archer is an Australian troubadour in the truest sense — a songwriter, storyteller and road-worn poet whose music has travelled from intimate rural halls to major metropolitan stages. A founding force behind Kangaroos with Machine Guns, Archer’s work blends raw lyricism, dry Australian humour and a deep affection for the people and landscapes that shape his songs. Whether performing in remote communities across regional Australia or headlining city venues like the Brunswick Ballroom, he brings a disarming authenticity that turns every room into a shared campfire.
Beyond the stage, Archer became widely known as the devoted owner of Seamus — the cerebral palsy Angus bull at the heart of the Screen Australia-recognised documentary series Cooking for Seamus, supported by Screen Australia. The series captured not just rural life, but a philosophy of care, resilience and humour that mirrors Archer’s own creative spirit.
His latest musical chapter, Archer Presents – Love Songs From The Divine Church of the Open Sky, expands that spirit into sweeping brass textures through the Open Sky Big Brass Band. Featuring luminous arrangements by Eugene Ball and under the musical direction of Phillipa Edwards OAM, the project transforms his earthy songwriting into something cinematic, expansive and unmistakably Australian — music that feels as wide as the horizon and as intimate as a front-verandah confession.https://beat.com.au/a-mere-5-a-shoe-archer-is-bringing-a-28-piece-brass-band-and-a-shoeshiner-to-brunswick-ballroom/

Seamus, an Angus bull with a rare palsy condition, has been raised on human food by troubadour Archer. For years Archer marvelled at Seamus’s appetite and – while watching him relish flavours and textures – became convinced that Seamus’s palate is superior to any human’s. Now Archer brings ‘celebrity chefs’ to cook for Seamus for a ‘potentially award winning tv show’ – though Archer has little to no experience in creating or watching TV.
Visiting chefs are disarmed by Archer’s laconic charm and the wobbly immensity of Seamus’s salivating enthusiasm. While the meal is made, stories are shared, songs are sung, beautiful accidents happen. The series haphazardly mixes absurdity and sincerity, finding a dash of magic in every episode.
